In his new book, Back to the Land: A New way of Life in the Country: Foraging, Cheesemaking, Beekeeping, Syrup Tapping, Beer Brewing, Orchard Tending, Vegetable Garening, and Ecological Farming in the Hudson River Valley, Pieter takes a look at farmstead living — the way the Mathers lived so long ago — which is coming back into fashion with many people who have recently made an exodus from the city to the country.
