It’s a been a year of cool tunes, as highlighted by WFUV listeners, with “Top 90 Songs of 2017,” and New Music Matters’ Top 20+ Songs from 2017. I couldn’t make a list any better than these, so I’m sharing their playlists here as we say “good-bye” to 2017.
This month’s playlist is appropriately themed for Thanksgiving with a bit of a southern spin. Thanks to the gang at StyleBluePrint/Louisville (by way of my sister, Ashley), for sharing this “playlist of inspiration and thankfulness”. It was thoughtfully put together, so listen to it in order—not on shuffle.
Unfortunately, I missed the Pilgrimage Festival a few weeks ago (though the other #SaltsmanSisters did make it). It’s such an appealing event because of the small southern venue in Tennessee, and more importantly, the eclectic mix of music: pop (Justin Timberlake), indie (The Avett Brothers, Shovels & Rope), soul (Mavis Staples, Gary Clark Jr, Trombone Shorty), familiar names (Eddie Vedder, Ryan Adams), and newcomers (Joseph, The Revivalists, Colony House). So here’s the playlist to get a better taste of this year’s event and know that you will see me #MakeThePilgrimage there next year!
Gadzooks! Quite a bit of new music that has been released recently – particularly from an eclectic range of well-known names (U2, Arcade Fire, The National, Jack Johnson, Tori Amos). Then there are some new tunes from lesser knowns but still faves of mine (Iron & Wine, Belle & Sebastian, Stars).
PS – Try and listen to St. Vincent’s “New York” without getting it stuck in your head (warning explicit language).
We are taking our oldest to college for the FIRST TIME tomorrow. Yikes! God help me…I thought I would be ready when this day came. But I am realizing that I am totally unprepared. So here is a “Goodbye Songs” playlist that I found while thinking about this big week!
